Volunteer Programme

Why do we feel a Volunteer Programme is important at St Paul’s?

It reflects our core Christian values such as:

  • Compassion
  • Service
  • Generosity
  • Community
  • Respect

Volunteering gives children real opportunities to practise these values rather than just talk about them.

It teaches children to care for others:

Through volunteering, children learn:

  • That their actions can make a difference
  • How to see the needs of others
  • How to respond with kindness and empathy

It strengthens the school community:

Volunteering helps children feel more connected:

  • To their classmates
  • To their teachers
  • To their local community and church

We feel that when children contribute to school life—helping younger pupils, participating in charity events, supporting local projects it builds a strong, caring community.

It helps children grow in confidence and character:

Volunteering develops:

  • Responsibility
  • Leadership
  • Teamwork
  • Independence
  • A sense of purpose

We aim to help children become “courageous advocates”people who stand up for others and act for good.

It supports real-world learning:

Volunteering helps children understand the world beyond the classroom:

  • Environmental projects
  • Local charity work
  • Helping elderly people
  • Raising awareness about global issues

This helps our pupils develop as responsible global citizens.

 It encourages gratitude and perspective:

Volunteering often helps children see:

  • That others may face different challenges
  • That they can share what they have
  • That giving time is as valuable as giving money

Our Younger Volunteers Helping in the Community

Good morning,

I hope you are well and having a good day.

Well, I arrived in the office today and there was a lovely surprise on my desk – a wonderful card from Malakai who is part of your volunteer programme!

Thank you very much for the beautiful card and for thinking of us here at Oaklands. We have put the card on display so that everyone can see it.

We wish you all a wonderful Easter and hope you enjoy your break.

With kind regards

A Random Act of Kindness from our special volunteers.

Children from the Volunteer Program, Mrs Bagley, Mrs Millington-Jones, Mrs Jones and Ernie the dog all had a very special morning spreading our love and kindness around our community.

Residents near to the school were given little bunches of daffodils to say Happy Easter and a tag that thanked everyone for supporting us.

The children thoroughly enjoyed talking to local residents and delivering happiness to each door step.

Volunteer Programme updates

A pupil in 1DG has worked very hard this year to complete the volunteer program. Some of the tasks really encourage children to push themselves and show resilience in situations they may not have been comfortable to try before. We are all so proud of the hard work this pupil has put in, including working in a charity shop, creating Christmas shoe boxes for children less fortunate, dusting, hoovering, making drinks, sending Christmas cards to care homes, cooking dinner, donating to the food bank, litter picking, clearing the leaves for neighbours, and reading a poem to be played in a local church. She has also completed lots of chores around the house to raise money for the St Paul's School in Africa.
